Can you tell us a bit about your school life?
After finishing high school in Kocaeli, Turkey, I pursued an Electronics and Communication Engineering degree from Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University. Upon graduating, I gained valuable work experience for a few years before deciding to further my education in a different field. I moved to Canada and enrolled in a program to study Business Administration. I am working hard toward completing my degree in this field and am excited to see where this new career path will take me.
Please tell us a bit about your career.
Even before completing my formal education, I embarked on my career journey as a NOC Engineer at a telecommunications firm based in Istanbul. I soon transitioned to the role of Account Manager, where I faced new challenges and experiences. Despite the steep learning curve, I successfully adapted to the new position and thrived.
After spending some time in the company, I decided it was time to move on to new opportunities, and shortly after that, I learned about a new company called Qoolize that had recently opened its doors. While I was already planning a move to Canada, I found the prospect of working for a new company exciting and challenging.
Following this experience, I was fortunate enough to join Qoolize, where I have worked for two years. During my time here, I have continued to grow and develop my skills in various areas, and I am excited to see what the future holds.
When did you move to Canada,
and how did you decide?
For as long as I can remember, I have had a deep desire to experience life abroad, but the details of how to make that happen were always uncertain. After exploring various opportunities, pursuing my education in Canada was a possible path that would enable me to achieve this lifelong dream. In September 2021, I decided to relocate to Toronto, and I have been thrilled with this new chapter in my life ever since. Although the journey has been challenging, it has also been gratifying. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue growing and developing my skills in such a dynamic and exciting environment.
How is life there?
Respectful. In this great place, life is designed to be free from external factors that could impact one's quality of life. The concept of personal space and safety is paramount, and the lifestyle can be wild and adventurous or relaxed and serene, depending on your preference. While many intricacies make this place so unique, one truth remains at the forefront: the cold. The winter season covers nearly 8-9 months of the year, with snow, an average temperature of -15 degrees Celsius, and an early darkening sky. These conditions can be challenging and even somewhat depressing, but many unique beauties remind us of the joys of life everywhere we look! The incredible natural beauty is reminiscent of a fairy tale, and it's truly awe-inspiring to witness firsthand.
Did you find it easy to adapt to Canada? Did you face any difficulties?
Adapting to a new country is never easy, but fortunately, I did not face significant difficulties settling down in Canada. As a part of my job, I regularly interacted with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, which helped me acclimatize quickly. Additionally, the Canadian system and procedures aligned with what I had hoped for, making the transition smoother. The only challenge remained the weather, which can be pretty extreme, especially during winter. However, with time and experience, I learned to cope with it better, and now I can confidently say that I have fully adapted to life in Canada.
What have you yet to get used to in Canada?
Having lived in Istanbul, a bustling metropolis, the transition to the serene and orderly lifestyle in Canada was a culture shock. The calm and quiet atmosphere of the streets was a stark contrast to the constant hustle and bustle of Istanbul. Sometimes, walking down a busy street in complete silence, with no one engaging in conversation, can feel odd and even unsettling. However, over time, I've grown accustomed to the peacefulness of Canadian life and have come to appreciate it.
What did working at Qoolize bring to your life?
From the beginning, I felt at ease working alongside someone whose business mindset I already knew and trusted. Bringing the job where we wanted it without experiencing the difficulties we previously lived together was not even a genuine effort. Working on the rise of a start-up telecom company was a unique experience in witnessing this process firsthand. In addition, working remotely was also influential in terms of my lifestyle here.
What is your advice to those wanting to pursue the same profession as you?
While continuing their education, individuals interested in pursuing a career similar to mine can benefit from expanding their interpersonal skills and foreign language proficiency. In addition to this, having a broad vision is crucial for those who aspire to develop themselves in this field. Working with people worldwide requires an overall perspective, even if it may not be intense. Therefore, they should focus on building a global network and developing an open-minded approach to different cultures and perspectives.
Do you have any hobbies? If so, what are they?
Whenever I find the time, I enjoy playing music. I used to be in a band and would sing and play guitar, but I haven't been able to give it the attention it deserves due to work and life situations. However, I still sing and play guitar as much as possible, go to the gym regularly, and practice foreign languages. I also love cooking and try to make new dishes from different cuisines whenever possible. Additionally, I plan to participate in sketch comedy at drama clubs shortly.
What do you think is the best TV series of all time?
While it may seem like a typical answer, Game of Thrones is the best TV series ever. Its production value and storyline are unparalleled, making it a cut above the rest. Everything about the show is top-notch and engaging, from the stunning visuals to the intricate plot. It will go down in history as an actual television masterpiece.
What is your biggest dream that you want to achieve?
When the time comes, my biggest dream is to own a cozy restaurant in a seaside town where I can make music and food. I envision a place where people can relax and enjoy good food and great music in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's a dream that has been with me for a long time, and I'm excited to make it a reality someday. And, of course, when I open the restaurant, you're all invited to come and share the experience with me!
Our employees worldwide are transforming their classical working models and adopting the method of growing together.
